A TRUE LOVE CONNECTION

As I continue to grow in my art, I am driven to try new things and leave other things behind.  I love the comfort of routine but even I can't imagine doing the same things, the same way forever.  We were created for so much more!  

Some photographers have a passion and supreme talent for the intricately-posed, prop-filled, skin-like-porcelain baby portraits.  It is an incredibly beautiful genre I sincerely admire.  That style can also lead to an adorable and highly addictive newborn prop collection, which is a whole other topic!

Looking back at my work, I realize I am most drawn to images that show emotion and a true love connection; images that will spark memories years from now.  I wish I had realized this when all three of my children were little.  I can't tell you how many times I would be doing something with my children and would wish someone was there to document the moment.  

This sweet baby yawn was from an in-home session I did a couple years ago.  Call me sentimental, but natural images such as this absolutely draw me in.

Baby yawns, squishy baby rolls, silky baby hair, the little flakes of their newborn skin as they adjust to life outside the womb and even the little bits of dried milk around their mouth speak of life.  

I can look at this image and remember the warm weight of my babies cradled against my body.  I remember their little squirms and stretches and coos.  As a mother, these are the details and moments we want to breathe in and burn into our memories forever. 

Years from now, you'll show your growing child just how tiny they were; their baby foot held firmly is dad's strong, warm hand.  They'll giggle as dad tries to wrap his hand around their ever-growing preteen feet! 

We think we will always remember moments like these but as time marches forward, those sweet baby moments are replaced by whatever age we are currently surviving; be it toddler, preschool or even the dreaded teen years!

There is nothing more precious to a child than seeing images of themselves and their parents together.  Family is everything and images like this mean more with each passing year.

Newborns change and grow by the day.  It may not feel like it when you're awake for most of it, but trust me, I'm speaking from experience!  Don't let it all slip away without capturing precious moments such as these.
