THE ABSENCE OF COLOR

As I was going through files this week, I decided to take a second look at the Kuss wedding . . .  in black and white!

Was this wedding beautiful and elegant in color?  Absolutely yes!  But sometimes it's fun and interesting to change things up a bit.  You never know what else your eyes will see! 

The absence of color lets light and shadow do all the work.  The details of their wedding ring set, the texture and pattern of the lace on her dress, the pipes of the church organ, the swirl pattern and floral texture on their cake, the curls of her up-do and even the beautiful freckles on her skin all came to life when the distraction of color is removed.  The bright red carpet of the church can no longer compete with her gorgeous red hair or distract the eye from their beautiful, neutral color palette.  The absence of color in the ceremony images allows your eye to focus on the couple and draws you into each moment.

Not all photos are suited to black and white, but the textures and details from this day definitely provided the contrast to make black and white work beautifully.

I am blessed to second shoot weddings with professional photographer Mysti Killough of Mystic Images Photography.  She's a country girl and I'm a city girl and we complement each other perfectly!  We love LOVE and we especially love being a part of these incredible life moments!  By the way, that's one of Mysti's engagement portraits of the couple on the generations table at their reception.
